Parbati Charan Dhar was born on 30 August 1920 in Sakina village, Manikganj police station, in the Dhaka district of Undivided India. He was the son of Tarini Charan Dhar and Matangini Devi. He began his education at Jhitka Pathshala and later attended Jhitka Anandamohan English School. While still a student, he became involved in the freedom movement and was later arrested and tortured by the colonial authorities for picketing against foreign goods at the Jhitka market.
In 1938, Parbati Charan looted ₹30,000 from a Swadeshi target to support revolutionaries in Maharashtra. Arrested in 1939, he was placed under house arrest. During the Quit India Movement in 1942, he actively participated and later attempted to assassinate the colonial appointed Superintendent of Police. Though unsuccessful, he was arrested and sentenced to two months in the Alipore Central Jail. After release, he continued to engage in the struggle for national independence.
Post-independence, Parbati Charan served as a teacher at the Darimanpur Primary School before joining the Indian Army. In recognition of his sacrifices, he was awarded the Tamra Patra in 1972 and granted a freedom fighter’s pension by the government of India.
Parbati Charan Dhar passed away on 13 December 1994. His life remains a powerful symbol of dedication, courage and the enduring spirit of Indias freedom struggle.
