Mahendra Nath Sarkar, born in 1921 in Mobarakpur village of Dakshin Dinajpur, Bengal, was the son of Shri Bipin Bihari Sarkar and Smt. Kiranbala Devi. Despite a physical disability, he excelled academically and studied at the Dinajpur Girijanath High School. As a student, he joined the national freedom movement and became actively involved in the Quit India Movement in 1942. During a student strike, he slapped the District Magistrate and was subsequently arrested, serving time in Dinajpur and Rajshahi jails. Remarkably, he passed his matriculation in first division while in prison.
After his release, Mahendra Nath continued his education and passed his intermediate exam under the Calcutta University, again with distinction. Post-independence, he completed his graduation and became a teacher at the Setabganj High School. Later, he settled in Kaliaganj and taught at Raiganj Sudarshanpur Dwarikaprasad High School before retiring as Headmaster of the Hemtabad Adarsha Vidyapith. In recognition of his contributions to the nation, Mahendra Nath Sarkar was awarded a freedom fighters pension in 1972.
Mahendra Nath Sarkar passed away on 29 April 2005, leaving behind a legacy of courage and dedication.
