Ramkishan, son of Shriram, was a devoted freedom fighter who resided at Chomukha Mandir, Qazi Hauz, Delhi. Inspired by the growing nationalist wave in the early 20th century, he joined India’s freedom struggle with unwavering commitment. His involvement began in 1921 during the Non-Cooperation Movement led by Mahatma Gandhi. Participating in a peaceful protest against British colonial rule, Ramkishan was arrested and sentenced to six months of imprisonment – an early testament to his courage.
Undeterred, Ramkishan continued his activism and played a role in the Salt Satyagraha of 1930, a direct challenge to British colonial authority over salt production. For his participation, he was again sentenced to six months, this time in the Agra Jail. Despite repeated jail terms, Ramkishan remained resolute in his fight for national independence.
In 1942, Ramkishan actively joined the Quit India Movement, engaging in protests and underground resistance efforts. His consistent participation in the Non-Cooperation, Civil Disobedience, and Quit India movements highlights his deep-rooted dedication to the national cause.
Though not widely recognized, Ramkishan’s lifelong commitment exemplifies the spirit of countless unsung heroes. His sacrifices and determination reflect the vital role played by ordinary citizens in achieving India’s independence and shaping its future.
