Ramkala Kabadi, son of Shri Mukundlal, was born in 1890 and lived in Chota Bazar, Shahdara, Delhi. A scrap dealer by profession, Ramkala rose from humble beginnings to become a committed freedom fighter. He actively participated in both the Civil Disobedience Movement of 1930 and the Quit India Movement of 1942, demonstrating unwavering courage and determination in the fight against British colonial rule.
In August 1942, during the height of the Quit India Movement, Ramkala was arrested for his involvement in the bold attack on the colonial customs house and railway station in Shahdara. For this act of resistance, he was sentenced to over five and a half years in prison. He served his sentence in the Delhi Jail, Rohtak Jail, and Lahore Central Jail, enduring harsh conditions that reflected immense personal cost of his patriotism.
Beyond his participation in mass movements, Ramkala was deeply engaged in grassroots activism. He worked closely with the local Congress Committee, supported the Relief Committee during crises, and collaborated with the Barber Union to mobilize working-class support for the national cause.
Ramkala’s life is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by ordinary citizens. His fearless resistance and community-based efforts played a crucial role in strengthening the freedom movement at the grassroot level.
