Rajrani, born in 1904, was a fearless freedom fighter who made significant contributions to India’s independence movement. Residing in Kancha Brajnath, Chandni Chowk, Delhi, she was deeply influenced by her husband, Dr. Yudhveer Singh who was an active nationalist. Inspired by his dedication, Rajrani stepped beyond traditional domestic boundaries to actively participate in the fight for freedom.

The first major act of defiance by Rajrani occurred during the Civil Disobedience Movement. In December 1930, she was arrested while picketing a liquor shop – a powerful form of protest commonly led by women to challenge the exploitative British colonial policies and promote social reform. For her role, she was sentenced to six months in the Delhi Central Jail, an experience that only deepened her resolve.

Rajrani remained active in the freedom struggle, especially during the Quit India Movement of 1942. Her home became a clandestine centre for the distribution of revolutionary and nationalist literature. Undeterred by the risks, she helped spread the message of resistance and kept the spirit of defiance alive in her community.

In October 1942, Rajrani was arrested again for possessing revolutionary literature. Two years later, in 1944, she was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment and confined in the Delhi Central Jail and Ferozepur Jail.
