Kambhampati Manikyamba, born in 1917 in Thondanaram, Amalapuram Taluka, East Godavari District. She was married to Shri Satyanarayana. Encouraged by her husband, Manikyamba became involved in the Indian independence movement at a young age. At just 16 years of age, she actively participated in the Sasa Nollam Ghanam (a form of protest), marking the beginning of her involvement in the struggle for freedom.
Kambhampati’s courage led to her being arrested multiple times. She was first detained for 15 days each in the sub-jails of Bhimavaram and Eluru. Her most significant arrest occurred in Kuchipudi, Guntur district, where she was taken into custody and sentenced to six months of rigorous imprisonment in the Vellore Jail (Tamil Nadu) starting from 23 August 1932. Despite facing these challenges, Kambhampati Manikyamba remained steadfast in her commitment to the nation.
Following her release, Kambhampati continued her work in the Communist Party, where she advocated for workers rights and social justice. She also became active in various womens associations, striving to uplift the status of women in society. Her legacy is one of resilience, determination and a lifelong dedication to social reform. She spent much of her later years in Vijayawada, where she continued to be a source of inspiration for those committed to the cause of justice and equality.
