Janaki Ranjan Rajpandit was born in 1910 in Baruna Udaychak village, Undivided Midnapore (Medinipur) district. His father was Jogendranath Rajpandit. Janaki was deeply influenced by the Swadeshi movement and joined the struggle for independence while still studying in eighth grade at the Sonakhali High School.

On 12 March 1930, Mahatma Gandhi began the Dandi March and shortly after, the Salt Satyagraha movement took firm roots in Shyamganj (West Medinipur) under the Daspur police station. As a 10th-grade student, Janaki actively participated in the Salt Satyagraha in Shyamganj (West Medinipur). On 26 January 1931, he was arrested for hoisting the National Flag at Sonakhali Market (South 24 Parganas) and sentenced to six months of rigorous imprisonment. He was released on 31 August 1931, under the Gandhi-Irwin Pact. Due to his imprisonment, his education was interrupted for several years. Although he faced police obstruction, he eventually completed his matriculation from the Shibpur Dinbanodhu School and later earned a private M.A. degree.

Throughout the freedom struggle, Janaki Ranjan became close to notable freedom fighters like Bipin Bihari Ganguly and Manabendranath Roy. After India’s independence, he dedicated himself to teaching and became involved in the cultural and philanthropic activities.

Janaki Ranjan Rajpandit passed away on 29 November 1979.
